Katie Kim
Katie is a Junior at Loyola University Chicago, majoring in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience with a double minor in Computer Science and Psychology. She was born and raised in San Francisco, California. Her passion for psychology grew after taking a Psychology class at a community college in high school, where she found herself captivated by the question of why some memories linger while others fade. She previously interned at the Alzheimer’s Association, where she engaged directly with individuals affected by neurodegenerative diseases and advocated for equitable access to resources and support for caregivers involved in memory care. This shaped her interest in researching memory, particularly in how different factors can influence retention. Katie also is curious to explore how advancements in science and technology can inform one another to push research further. Katie plans to pursue a Ph.D. in the future and continue a research career.
Away from the MNEME lab, Katie loves to work with children (K-12), specifically as a tutor at the nonprofit Housing Opportunities for Women (HOW). She also enjoys traveling, learning languages, museums, walking around the city, and fashion. You may find her volunteering at fashion shows or attending an art exhibit in the city. Katie is eager to gain hands-on experience to deepen her understanding of memory, particularly how it is influenced by stress and emotional factors.
